Halloween half-term events to enjoy in Bristol this October
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

From scare mazes to family-friendly trails, here is a guide to the spooky festivities happening across Bristol for the remainder of the half-term holiday.
Residents of Swindon and Wiltshire looking to venture further afield this half-term can take advantage of a wide variety of Halloween-themed events taking place across Bristol. Whether you are looking for family outings or more intense thrills, the city is hosting several seasonal activities leading up to the end of October and beyond.
Family-friendly activities
For those seeking something spooky but suitable for all ages, Wake The Tiger is hosting its 'Hallo-Wheelie Bin Season' until 1 November. Visitors can explore a trail featuring the 'Binshees'—spirits of Halloween waste—alongside the venue's usual interactive exhibits.
The Clifton Observatory is also running a Halloween Trail until 1 November. Open daily from 10am to 4pm, the event allows visitors to explore the Giant’s Cave and Camera Obscura while solving clues. Please note that children must be at least four years old to enter the Giant’s Cave and must be accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets should be pre-booked online.
Alternatively, Almondsbury Garden Centre is hosting its popular free Skeleton Trail until 31 October. Families can follow clues around the garden centre, with a sweet treat offered to those who successfully find every skeleton.
Film and entertainment
The Bristol Film Festival is marking its 10th anniversary with a diverse programme of screenings in unique locations. The festival uses a specific 'scare level' tagging system, allowing families to choose films appropriate for their children's ages. Venues this year include The Mount Without, Averys Wine Cellars, and The Station, with screenings ranging from gothic classics to family favourites.
Events for older visitors
For those seeking more intense experiences, the Avon Valley scream park offers FEAR, an award-winning attraction. While the main event is restricted to those aged 16 and over, a 'FEARless' daytime experience is available for 11-16 year olds, featuring adapted scare attractions with live actors and street entertainment.
On Halloween night itself, 31 October, a silent disco will take over both Bristol Aquarium and We The Curious . Running from 7pm to 11pm, the ticketed event allows guests to explore science and marine exhibits while dancing to a mix of hits from the 80s, 90s and 00s.
It is recommended that visitors check official websites for ticket availability and specific entry requirements before travelling, as many of these events require pre-booking.
