Chippenham park footpath closure extended for emergency wall repairs
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

Essential repairs to a wall in John Coles Park have been extended by four weeks, prolonging the closure of a frequently used footpath.
A popular footpath in Chippenham is to remain closed for an additional month as essential repairs to a boundary wall continue. The path, located on the western side of John Coles Park, has been inaccessible since 20 October to allow for urgent maintenance work.
The route serves as a connection between King Alfred Street and Hungerford Road. While Wiltshire Council initially anticipated the repairs would be finished by the end of October, officials confirmed on Thursday that the project timeframe has been extended by four weeks.
The council previously issued an emergency notice for the site, which indicated that the closure could be in operation for up to six months if required, though the current extension brings the immediate project duration into late November.
For those who rely on this path for their daily travel, a signed diversion route remains in place. Pedestrians are being directed via King Alfred Street, Hardenhuish Avenue, Marshfield Road, Park Terrace and Park Fields. Residents are advised to plan their journeys accordingly while the safety measures remain in effect.
