Residents in Sutton Benger can now access postal services at the Wellesley Arms as part of an initiative to provide essential community resources.

A Wiltshire village has gained a new community resource as the Wellesley Arms in Sutton Benger officially opens a pop-up Post Office. The service, hosted inside the popular pub known locally as 'The Welly', aims to provide residents with convenient access to essential tasks within their own village.

The pop-up service is available to the public every Thursday morning between 9am and 11am. During these hours, residents are able to pay bills, send parcels, process returns, and withdraw cash. The initiative is designed to complement the pub's traditional hospitality offerings, with patrons invited to enjoy refreshments while completing their errands.

Mark Florey, owner of the Inn The Sticks Pub Collection which operates the Wellesley Arms, expressed his hope that the service would prove genuinely useful for those living in Sutton Benger and surrounding villages. He emphasised that the move aligns with the pub's desire to act as a central hub where people can meet and feel part of the community.

The brewery and pub brand Wadworth has welcomed the development as a clear example of how modern pubs are diversifying their function. A spokesperson for the company highlighted the importance of such initiatives, noting that the pub is becoming a focal point for essential local services beyond its primary role as a place for dining and socialising.

The Wellesley Arms is one of five sites managed by the Inn The Sticks group, alongside pubs in Langley Burrell, Grittleton, Hinton, and Didmarton. This latest addition follows efforts to strengthen the pub's position at the heart of the village by providing a reliable alternative for local residents who might otherwise need to travel further afield for postal requirements.
