The Stonegate Group has confirmed plans to market the Patriot Arms in Chiseldon for new tenants, following months of closure for the community-protected pub.

The long-awaited return of the Patriot Arms in Chiseldon is moving a step closer, with owners Stonegate Group signalling that the site will soon be advertised for new tenants. The pub, which has remained boarded up since January 2026, holds the status of an Asset of Community Value, ensuring local residents have a say in its future use and protecting it from potential redevelopment.

Chiseldon Parish Council received an update during their meeting on 14 September, confirming that the owners are finalising the legal requirements necessary to reopen the venue. While the vacancy was initially expected to be advertised by the end of September, the company noted that administrative work must be completed before the site can officially go live on their website.

The Patriot Arms became a focus for the village following the departure of former landlords David Hiscock and Claire Gulliver. The couple, who had taken on the challenge in November 2024, made the difficult decision to step down earlier this year to focus on their family. Their departure marked a significant loss for the area, as they had been instrumental in keeping the doors open during a particularly challenging period for the hospitality industry.

Recent reports indicate that internal work has been carried out at the site, suggesting that preparations for a change in management are underway. Representatives from the Stonegate Group have confirmed to local councillors that they are actively working to secure the necessary rights to market the property. Once these formalities are resolved, the pub is expected to appear on the company's online listings.

As the site is protected as an Asset of Community Value, the process of finding new leadership is of particular interest to the local community. The designation ensures that the pub remains a focal point for village life rather than being sold off for alternative purposes. For residents and those hoping to see the venue restored to its role as a social hub, the upcoming listing represents a vital opportunity for a new chapter in the history of the Patriot Arms.
