A new exhibition at The Pound Arts Centre will showcase artwork created by survivors of domestic abuse, offering a platform for healing and community awareness.
A powerful new exhibition showcasing the creative journeys of domestic abuse survivors is set to open in Corsham this November. Organised by the Wiltshire-based charity Alongside, the event aims to highlight how artistic expression can play a pivotal role in the recovery process for those who have experienced significant trauma.
The exhibition will be held at The Pound Arts Centre from November 17 to 21. It features a collection of original artwork produced by individuals who have used creative methods to rebuild their confidence and process their personal experiences. According to the organisers, each piece is accompanied by the artist's own story, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the resilience required to move towards a safer and more independent life.
Community engagement and support
Beyond displaying art, the event is designed to serve as a hub for community conversation. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage in interactive activities, including a live collaborative artwork session led by performance artist Rose Popay. The charity hopes these sessions will help break down stigmas and encourage a wider discussion on the necessity of creative therapies in mental health and recovery.
Helen Bedser, chief executive of Alongside, emphasised the importance of the project: "Art can provide a safe way to communicate experiences, rebuild confidence and rediscover a sense of hope. We are incredibly proud of the artists exhibiting their work and grateful to them for sharing their stories."
Alongside, which rebranded from its former name, Julian House, in June 2026, provides extensive outreach, safe accommodation, and practical support to people across the South West facing homelessness and domestic abuse. The charity notes that while their branding has evolved, their core commitment to supporting those in crisis remains unchanged.
How to attend
The exhibition is open to the public and serves as a call to action to recognise the support systems available for those affected by domestic abuse. Further details on the event schedule and the work of the charity can be found by visiting the official website at poundarts.org.uk/whats-on/alongside . The organisers have also indicated that the event provides an opportunity for reflection and connection for anyone interested in the intersection of creativity and wellbeing.
