Lloyds Bank in Devizes is set to close its doors permanently this month as the firm shifts towards digital banking services.

The Lloyds Bank branch located in Devizes Market Place will close permanently on October 21. The move follows an initial announcement made by the banking group earlier this year regarding its nationwide branch footprint.

Lloyds previously stated that the decision to close the site was driven by a shift in customer behaviour, with the majority of account holders now preferring to manage their finances via mobile apps and online banking platforms. The bank has indicated that customers still requiring face-to-face assistance will be directed towards alternative options, including the use of local Post Office branches, PayPoint services, and the company's community banker programme.

Alongside the closure, plans are currently under consideration by Wiltshire Council regarding the future of the historic property. The proposals involve the removal of all external branding, signage and automated teller machines (ATMs). According to the planning documents, the bank has committed to ensuring that all decommissioning works are made good and returned to their original state once the facilities are removed.

The consultation period for these external works is scheduled to conclude on October 15. Devizes Town Council has already confirmed that it will not be lodging any objections to the proposed changes to the building's facade.
