A 99-year-old woman from Devizes has officially entered the record books after completing a daring wing walk to raise money for the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance.

A 99-year-old resident of Devizes has reached new heights by becoming the world's oldest female wing walker. Helga Duffy took to the skies above RFC Rendcomb Airfield in Gloucestershire this past Saturday, proving that age is no barrier to adventure.

Ms Duffy, who moved to a care home in Devizes after many years living in Frome, completed the flight at the age of 99 years and 21 days. Strapped to the top of a plane operated by AeroSuperBatics WingWalkers, she remained composed throughout the challenge. Reflecting on the experience, she described the sensation as peculiar but firmly stated that she felt excitement rather than fear.

Her ambitious feat was undertaken in support of the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance. The fundraising effort has already surpassed £1,300, a cause particularly close to her family. Her nieces, Jackie Rose and Julie Preece, noted that their mother was once transported by an air ambulance, making the donation all the more meaningful for them.

Family members described Ms Duffy as an independent and forthright character who has long sought to do something unique. Ms Rose added that the flight served as a testament to her aunt's enduring spirit, proving she remains the same vibrant individual she has always been. According to Ms Duffy, she was inspired to take on the challenge by the previous record holder, 97-year-old Betty Bromage.

Following the successful flight, Ms Duffy was presented with an official Guinness World Records certificate. A spokesperson for the flight team at AeroSuperBatics congratulated her, describing her as an inspiration to others. Sam Conway, representing the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, praised the effort, observing that Ms Duffy appeared to have the time of her life during the experience.

The previous record holder, Ms Bromage, has already suggested a potential return to the skies. She expressed her desire to reclaim the title once she reaches the age of 100, showing that the competitive spirit among wing walkers remains as high as ever.
