Marlborough High Street store closes as security monitors vacant site
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

The TG Jones store on Marlborough High Street has ceased trading, with security now overseeing the vacant premises.
A prominent fixture on Marlborough High Street has closed its doors permanently, marking another change for the town centre retail landscape. The TG Jones store, which occupied a key space in the town, ceased operations on Saturday, 17 October.
While signage remains on the exterior of the building, the interior has been cleared. Security teams have been deployed to monitor the vacant site, and shoppers are advised that the Barclays ATM located at the premises is no longer operational as of 21 October.
The closure follows a period of transition for the retailer, which had been under the ownership of Modella since June 2025. The company took over the site after previously operating as a WHSmith franchise. In a statement issued last month, a spokesperson for TG Jones described the decision as a necessary measure for the long-term future of the business, acknowledging that the news would be disappointing for local customers and staff.
The company has expressed its gratitude to the Marlborough employees for their commitment and contribution to the store. Current efforts are now focused on supporting the staff members affected by the shutdown.
