Marlborough High Street store TG Jones to close its doors this week

A popular shop on Marlborough High Street is set to shut permanently this week as part of a wider national restructuring plan.
Shoppers in Marlborough have only days left to visit the TG Jones store on the High Street before it closes its doors for the final time. The branch, which has been a feature of the town centre, is scheduled to cease trading on October 17.
The closure follows a period of transition for the retailer, which was acquired by Modella in June 2025. The company recently confirmed the Marlborough location is one of approximately 150 stores across the UK facing closure following a court-approved restructuring plan aimed at securing the business's long-term future.
As the final countdown begins, the store has been offering significant discounts to clear remaining stock. Staff have been working to manage the final days of trading while supporting customers during the transition period.
In a statement regarding the closures, a company spokesperson acknowledged the impact on the local community, stating: "We know this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers, and the local community. Our focus now is on supporting those affected and continuing to serve customers throughout the closure period."
The national restructuring programme, which affects hundreds of locations, involves a series of measures including rent reductions and closures to stabilise the retail chain. The impact of these changes has been felt regionally, with the retailer's broader footprint continuing to evolve after it took over the WHSmith franchise last year. In Swindon, the company recently oversaw the closure of the long-standing Regent Street store, marking a significant change for the town centre.
Local shoppers looking to visit the Marlborough branch before it closes should be aware that stock levels are currently low as the final clearance continues.
