Oxfordshire primary school admissions open for 2027 intake
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

Parents in Oxfordshire are now invited to apply for primary school places for children starting in September 2027.
Oxfordshire County Council has officially opened the primary school application process for children due to start school in September 2027. Parents and carers of children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023 are encouraged to submit their preferences through the council’s online portal.
The local authority has highlighted the importance of completing applications well before the closing date. The deadline for all submissions is 15 January 2027. Officials warn that applications received after this date will be processed later in the year, which significantly reduces the likelihood of securing a place at a preferred school.
Councillor Sean Gaul, the Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Young People’s Services, has advised families to take full advantage of the form by naming four school preferences. Naming multiple schools does not diminish the chances of securing a first-choice placement, but it does serve as an important safeguard against the risk of being allocated a school that was not selected by the family.
Last year saw a strong success rate for local families, with almost 94 per cent of children in Oxfordshire allocated their first-preference primary school. The council’s admissions team aims to match children with their preferred options where capacity allows.
Once the application window closes in January, parents will be notified of the outcome on National Offer Day, which falls on 16 April 2027. Further information and the online application portal can be accessed via the Oxfordshire County Council website .
