Reading Winter Wonderland returns to Hills Meadow for 2026

Planning permission has been granted for the return of the popular festive attraction to Caversham this November.
Reading Winter Wonderland is set to return to the Hills Meadow car park in Caversham for its sixth consecutive year after Reading Borough Council approved the event plans.
The attraction, which has become a staple of the local festive calendar since moving from Forbury Gardens in 2021, will open its doors on Saturday, 7 November 2026, and remain in place until Sunday, 3 January 2027. Preparations at the site are scheduled to begin on 11 October.
Following a planning committee meeting on 7 September, organisers received the go-ahead for the event, though with notable changes to the site layout. Planning officers confirmed that all rides and equipment are to be restricted to the gravel area of the park. This measure is intended to preserve the wildlife strip located alongside the public footpath, addressing environmental concerns raised during the approval process.
The event management plan has also been updated to include enhanced flood risk and emergency action protocols to ensure public safety throughout the two-month residency.
Visitors can expect a selection of attractions, including a giant observation wheel, a family rollercoaster, an indoor ice skating rink, and a traditional Santa's grotto. A total of at least 15 rides and attractions will be available. Food and drink options will feature various seasonal offerings, such as German sausages, crepes, halloumi fries, and mulled wine.
While entry to the Winter Wonderland remains free, individual rides typically cost between £2 and £5. Organisers will offer an unlimited access wristband priced at £24, which covers four hours of fairground attractions. Those wishing to add ice skating to their visit can purchase an upgrade for £5 with the wristband, or pay for standalone skating, with prices ranging from £10 to £15.
The site remains accessible by public transport via several bus routes, including the Berry 23, Pink 25, and Little Berries 29 services. On-site parking will also be available for those driving to the venue. While standard operating hours are expected to be 11am to 10pm daily, visitors are advised to check official channels closer to the time for any variations to the schedule.
