New disabled access facilities planned for Amesbury Recreation Ground
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

Amesbury Town Council has submitted plans to upgrade accessibility at the local recreation ground to better serve residents with disabilities.
Amesbury Town Council has lodged a planning application to introduce new dedicated facilities at the town's recreation ground. The proposal aims to address current shortcomings, with officials noting that existing amenities at the site are no longer suitable for visitors with disabilities.
The application, which has been submitted to Wiltshire Council, details the construction of a new unit designed to be fully compliant with accessibility requirements. Plans include the installation of a dedicated disabled facility alongside a separate ambulant facility. To ensure the new unit is accessible to all, the development will feature an exterior platform and a new access ramp.
According to the project documents, the proposed facilities will be connected to the existing drainage infrastructure currently serving the park's pavilion. The application is part of a wider schedule of planning notices recently validated by the local authority for the Salisbury and Amesbury area.
Residents and interested parties can review the full details of the proposal through the Wiltshire Council planning portal under the reference PL/2026/06273. If approved, the upgrade will mark a significant improvement for community members who have previously faced challenges navigating the site.
