Hundreds of residents took to the streets of Salisbury for the annual Midnight Walk, raising vital funds to support patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
A vibrant atmosphere took over the streets of Salisbury as hundreds of local residents participated in the annual Salisbury Hospice Midnight Walk. The event, organised by the Salisbury Hospice Charity, successfully raised over £25,000 to bolster the essential palliative and bereavement services provided to the community.
Participants gathered at the Five Rivers Leisure Centre on Saturday, September 19, opting to take on either a six or 10-mile route. Many walkers chose to take part in memory of loved ones, while others joined in gratitude for the care the hospice has provided to their families. The colourful scene featured walkers in various costumes, including glittery wings, illuminated flower crowns, and even a flamingo outfit.
The evening was marked by several community-focused activities. Before setting off under a glowing LED arch, participants were treated to a warm-up session led by Clubbercise instructor Penny Peers and heard an address from Nikki Spicer, chair of trustees at the Salisbury Hospice Charity. Throughout the journey, the event introduced new engagement features such as selfie stations, a silent disco, and designated memory stations where walkers could share photos and messages. A poignant moment took place at the west doorsteps of Salisbury Cathedral, where participants paused to light candles in remembrance.
Natalie Pester, events and engagement executive at Salisbury Hospice Charity, praised the turnout and the community spirit on display. She noted that the event was a testament to the local strength of support, thanking everyone who contributed, volunteered, and participated to make the evening a success.
The significant sum raised will go directly towards the charity's ongoing work in providing comfort and care to patients facing life-limiting illnesses. The charity also extended its appreciation to headline sponsor Bluebird Care and numerous local supporters, including Salisbury City Council and local businesses who assisted with logistics, security, and entertainment throughout the night.
