A Salisbury-based community group that has grown to over 900 members is set to compete for a national prize after being shortlisted for a UK Small Business Award.

A local walking initiative designed to improve women’s wellbeing in Salisbury has been recognised on the national stage. Women’s Wellbeing Walks – Salisbury has been named a finalist in the Best Community Contribution category at the upcoming UK Small Business Awards.

The group, which was established in May 2026, has seen rapid growth, expanding from an informal idea into a community of more than 900 women. It was founded by local health and fitness coach Kelly Adlam, who runs the Salisbury-based coaching business Sorelle Vitality Ltd.

Ms Adlam originally launched the group after seeking a way to get out and connect with others in her local area. What began as a simple Facebook post aimed at finding a walking companion has evolved into a structured programme of free monthly walks and regular coffee meet-ups. The group is open to women of all ages and fitness levels, with the primary aim of fostering friendship and supporting mental and physical health.

Reflecting on the achievement, Ms Adlam said: "This award belongs to every single woman who comes along each month. They have thrown themselves into our challenges, kept the Facebook group buzzing, and given up their time to walk alongside complete strangers, yet walked away with brand new friends."

She added: "I knew I could not be the only one feeling that way, so I put a few posts out on Facebook, crossed my fingers and simply hoped somebody would turn up and want to walk with me. Now, we have free events every month, a Facebook community of over 900 women, and we are now finalists for a national award. I still cannot quite believe it."

The organisers of the UK Small Business Awards noted that the standard of entries this year was exceptionally high, with finalists selected for their dedication and community impact. The national winners are scheduled to be announced at an awards ceremony in Birmingham on 19 December 2026, which will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.

For residents interested in joining the community, the group shares details of its organised walks and coffee meet-ups through the Women’s Wellbeing Walks – Salisbury Facebook group.
