New first aid training sessions are being offered at the St John Ambulance base in Salisbury to help members of the public gain vital life-saving skills.
St John Ambulance has introduced a series of Community Life Saver courses in Salisbury to provide residents with essential first aid knowledge. The sessions are hosted at the organisation's Roman Road base and are designed for individuals looking to gain skills typically not accessible outside of professional workplace training.
The three-hour course covers a range of critical emergency first aid techniques. Participants receive practical instruction on performing CPR, operating a defibrillator, placing someone in the recovery position, and responding to choking, bleeding, and seizures in adults, children, and infants. Attendees are provided with a certificate upon completion of the training.
Tim Watts, a volunteer with St John Ambulance Salisbury, explained that the initiative follows long-standing demand from the public for accessible first aid education. The programme aims to bridge the gap for those who do not receive training through their employers.
The inaugural session was held on Thursday, October 8. According to organisers, the course has proven popular, drawing participants from both within and outside Wiltshire. A subsequent session is scheduled for Sunday, February 7, to meet the high demand.
In addition to these paid sessions, which cost £25, the charity continues to deliver shorter, free Emergency First Aid sessions at various locations including village halls, community clubs, and schools. St John Ambulance has a century-long history of providing first aid education in and around Salisbury. Residents interested in attending a course can sign up by visiting the official St John Ambulance website and searching for the community lifesaver programme.
