A popular Catherine Street venue has rebranded as The Cloisters, offering a new Irish bar concept alongside live sport and weekly entertainment.
A long-standing Salisbury pub has undergone a significant transformation, officially reopening its doors on Thursday, September 17, as a new Irish bar. Located on Catherine Street, the venue—formerly known as The Bell and Crown—is now trading as The Cloisters.
The rebranding follows the takeover of the site by the hospitality group Taste the World, which acquired the building in October 2025. This group has been active in the local area, also managing The Old Mill in Harnham and The Woodfalls Inn in the New Forest. In addition to the ground floor pub space, the group continues to operate the Twisted Barrel cocktail bar, which remains situated on the upper floor of the premises.
The Cloisters has been designed to offer a traditional Irish bar atmosphere, complete with themed decor. While focusing on the Irish theme, management has confirmed that the pub will continue to stock offerings from local breweries. The food menu focuses on casual dining, including options such as mini burgers and loaded fries.
A primary feature of the new venue is its commitment to sports broadcasting. The pub is positioning itself as a hub for rugby enthusiasts, with plans to screen all international rugby fixtures and Premiership Rugby matches. Football fans will also be catered for, with selected Premier League games scheduled for broadcast.
Beyond sports and drinks, the venue has introduced a weekly programme of social events to engage the local community:
Mondays: Weekly pub quiz.
Tuesdays: Weekly bingo night.
Wednesdays: Cocktail evening featuring a two-for-£15 promotion between 4 pm and 7 pm.
The management has also announced intentions to host regular poker and darts sessions in the coming months. As part of its promotional activities, the pub is currently running a 'Split the G' challenge, offering customers a chance to win a free pint of Guinness.
