Temporary traffic lights and a pedestrian footway closure are in place on Castle Street in Salisbury while utility works are carried out until mid-October.

Drivers heading through Salisbury are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys as utility repair and maintenance works begin on Castle Street. The project, which involves Scottish and Southern Power Distribution, started on the morning of October 5 and is scheduled to continue until 6pm on October 16.

To facilitate the work, two-way temporary traffic signals have been installed to manage the flow of vehicles. Motorists should anticipate potential congestion, particularly during morning and evening peak hours, as Castle Street remains a primary route connecting the city centre with the northern parts of Salisbury and the surrounding residential communities.

In addition to the traffic restrictions, the footway along the affected section of the road has been closed to pedestrians. Those travelling on foot are advised to follow the clearly marked diversion routes currently in place.

While the exact nature of the utility repairs has not been disclosed by the operator, the measures are intended to allow the maintenance to be completed safely. Wiltshire Council has noted that the advertised end date of October 16 remains weather-dependent, meaning it is possible for the works to be completed and the traffic lights removed sooner than planned.

Residents and commuters are advised to monitor local traffic reports for any changes to the expected duration of the restrictions.
