A popular route connecting Harnham to Salisbury city centre is closed until October 2 to allow for urgent repairs to a high-voltage underground electricity cable.
A well-used footpath connecting Harnham to Salisbury city centre has been temporarily closed to the public to facilitate urgent utility works. Harnham Town Path was shut on 28 September to allow engineers from SSE to carry out repairs on a high-voltage underground electricity cable running beneath the route.
Wiltshire Council confirmed that the closure is expected to remain in place until 2 October. While the local authority has expressed hope that the works could be completed sooner, they have stated that the current programme remains in place for the time being.
David Bullock, director of highways and transport at Wiltshire Council, said: The temporary closure of Harnham Town Path is needed to allow SSE to carry out urgent repairs to a high-voltage underground cable safely. The works started on 28 September and are currently expected to be completed by 2 October.
The council has noted that should the repairs be finished ahead of the anticipated date, the path will be reopened to pedestrians and cyclists as soon as it is safe to do so. However, they have cautioned that an earlier opening cannot be guaranteed. Officials have thanked local residents and commuters for their patience during the period of disruption.
