A long-awaited Tesco Express has officially opened at the St Peter's Place development, providing a new shopping option for the growing community.
A new Tesco Express has opened its doors in Salisbury, marking the completion of a long-awaited convenience store project at the St Peter's Place housing development. The store, situated at the corner of Adlam Way and Xanten Way, welcomed its first customers on Saturday, October 24.
For many residents of the expanding estate, the arrival of the shop addresses a significant gap in local amenities. Until now, those living at St Peter's Place often had to travel towards Wilton Road to purchase everyday groceries and household essentials.
The new retail space features a small customer car park and electric vehicle charging points. Its establishment represents the final fulfilment of original development plans for the site, which included land specifically set aside for community facilities alongside the existing primary school and local housing.
Local resident Sharon Williams welcomed the opening, noting the positive impact for the neighbourhood. While acknowledging some residents' previous concerns regarding the store's proximity to the school and potential traffic, she described the shop as a necessary addition for families and older residents who may have limited transport options.
Wiltshire Council granted planning permission for the site following detailed proposals, concluding that the development was suitable for the area despite the feedback raised during the planning process. The store has created several new employment opportunities, including a store manager role and additional staff positions.
The Tesco Express will operate seven days a week, with opening hours running from 7 am until 10 pm daily.
