Motorists are being advised of upcoming overnight roadworks on Castle Road, following recent confusion caused by unexplained lane closures.

Drivers in Salisbury are facing disruption on Castle Road as confusion persists over mysterious lane closures that appeared earlier this week. The left-hand lane of the route, heading towards the Castle Roundabout, was coned off on Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27, despite official utility works not being scheduled to commence until later in the week.

Wessex Water, which has confirmed responsibility for impending roadworks in the area, has clarified that it had no involvement in the early restrictions seen at the start of the week. The utility company confirmed that its previous work in the area, which involved repairing a leaking water main, was completed the previous week.

A spokesperson for Wessex Water confirmed that a return visit is necessary to permanently reinstate the site. The work has been approved by the local highways authority and will require an overnight road closure to ensure public and worker safety.

The official road closure is scheduled to take place from 7pm on Wednesday, October 28, until 5am on Thursday, October 29. Wessex Water has apologised to local motorists for any inconvenience caused by the works.

While the utility works are now documented, the reason for the coning off of the lane prior to the agreed schedule remains unclear. National Highways has been approached for comment regarding the earlier restrictions. The organisation has previously advised that separate works at the Castle Roundabout would involve a mix of daytime and overnight closures, supported by signed diversions where necessary.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance to account for the overnight closure on October 28 and to remain alert for any further traffic management measures in the vicinity of the roundabout.
