Salisbury RFC has enjoyed a successful pre-season double-header against Andover at Castle Road, with both the first and second teams securing dominant victories.

Salisbury Rugby Club has signalled a positive start to its preparations for the upcoming campaign, with both the first and second teams recording strong wins against Andover in a pre-season double-header at Castle Road.

The club, which has been working to build on last season's performance, used the matches to refine team cohesion and player skills ahead of the official league start. Following a competitive opening friendly against Chichester, the results against Andover provide a boost for both squads as they look towards the opening league fixtures.

The second XV set a high standard, dominating the first half with four tries to establish a 24-0 lead. Despite a spirited response from Andover after the interval, Salisbury regained momentum to cross the line four more times, resulting in a convincing 52-14 finish. The first XV followed this success with a 33-5 win, leading 14-0 at the break and maintaining their command throughout the second half to secure the result.

Director of Rugby Matt Pallas praised the commitment shown by both squads. 'Both our men’s and women’s squads have worked incredibly hard to build on last season’s progress and ensure they are fully prepared for their first league matches,' he said. 'Our coaches have invested a huge amount of time, energy and commitment into helping players develop their individual skills, while also building stronger, more cohesive teams.'

The wider community season, which saw delays due to earlier extreme drought conditions affecting pitch safety, is now scheduled to commence later this month. For Salisbury, the official Counties 1 Tribute Ale Southern South campaign begins with a home match against North Dorset on Saturday, September 26.

The club is also celebrating a significant development for its women's squad, which will embark on its first league season in Women's NC 3 South West. They are set to host Andover in their league opener on Sunday, September 27.

In light of the new season, the club continues to encourage local interest and participation. 'We’re still welcoming new players for the season, regardless of ability or experience,' Mr Pallas added. 'If you’re looking for a new challenge, want to get back into rugby or simply want to be part of something positive, come and join us.'
