Salisbury Rugby Club Women have celebrated their first-ever league win after a commanding 17-7 victory against Andover at Castle Road.
Salisbury Rugby Club Women have achieved a major milestone, securing their first-ever league victory with a 17-7 win over Andover Ladies at Castle Road. The home side asserted their dominance early in the match, setting the tone for a historic performance.
Mirren Tough opened the scoring for the hosts in the 10th minute, sparking an attacking rhythm that saw the team pull ahead significantly before the break. Further tries from Sophie Buck and Sai Taka, followed by a conversion from Sarah Sperrin, gave Salisbury a solid 17-0 lead at half-time.
The second half proved more challenging, with Andover mounting a strong response despite difficult weather conditions. While the visitors managed to break through with a converted try at the 60-minute mark, the Salisbury defence held firm throughout the final quarter to protect their lead and seal the result.
Beyond the final score, the victory served as a showcase for the club's successful development programme. Nine players in the matchday squad were graduates of the club's own junior section, having progressed through the ranks over the past six to eight years. Three of those players have made the jump to senior rugby within the last two seasons alone.
Women's coach Jason Yarwood praised the strength of the home-grown pipeline, noting that the depth of talent currently available to the squad is a testament to the club's long-term investment in youth development.
