From historic lectures and country fayres to charity walks, here is your guide to what is happening across Salisbury this weekend.

Salisbury hosts a busy programme of events this weekend, offering residents and visitors a variety of activities ranging from historical talks to community charity fundraisers.

Historical Insight and Community Gatherings

The weekend begins on Friday, September 18, with a special centenary talk hosted by CPRE Wiltshire. Esteemed historian Tom Holland will deliver a lecture at The Salisbury Museum titled From Standing Stones to the Swindon Roundabout: A History of Wiltshire . A reception precedes the event at 6pm, with the main lecture starting at 7pm. While members can attend for free, guest tickets are available for £15, including refreshments.

For those seeking a rural atmosphere, the Berwick St John Country Fayre runs from Friday evening through to Sunday afternoon. The event features an extensive programme including classic car, tractor, and steam vehicle displays, alongside live music and craft tents. Entry is by donation, with all proceeds supporting the Stars Appeal at Salisbury District Hospital.

Supporting Local Causes

Charity remains a central theme this weekend. Salisbury Hospice Charity holds its annual Midnight Walk on Saturday, September 19, under the theme Wings and Sparkles . Participants can choose between 6-mile or 10-mile routes through the city centre. The event serves as an opportunity for reflection and remembrance, with designated memory stations located along the route. Registration is required, with fees set at £15 for adults and £10 for children.

On the same day, Salisbury Cathedral will host its annual service for the blessing of pets at 2pm. The cathedral encourages attendees to bring their pets or a photograph of a favourite animal to the event. While there is no entry fee, donations are encouraged.

Sunday Activities and Markets

The weekend concludes with several local events on Sunday, September 20:

Arundells Autumn Plant Fair: Taking place between 10am and 3pm at 59 Cathedral Close, this fair allows visitors to explore the grounds and consult with expert gardeners. Admission to the fair is included with garden entry, priced at £4 for adults, with combined house and garden tickets available for £12.

Woodford Valley Car Fest: Hosted at The Bridge Inn, Upper Woodford, this event showcases classic, luxury, and sports cars. Entry is free, though donations are welcomed for the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance.

Salisbury Card Collectors Show: Held at St Elizabeth Hall from 10am to 3pm, the show features a wide range of collectible cards, including Pokémon and Magic the Gathering.

Elsewhere, the Chapel Nightclub is set to host an Elder Emo Day Party on Saturday from 4pm until 8pm.
