The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is encouraging local firms to join Business Crime Reduction Partnerships to combat shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.

Businesses across Swindon and Trowbridge are being invited to join a collaborative network designed to tackle rising concerns over shoplifting and anti-social behaviour. The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon is actively encouraging local shopkeepers and commercial premises to sign up for Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRPs).

These partnerships provide a platform for businesses to share information regarding known offenders and report criminal incidents directly to the police. The initiative aims to create a unified front against retail crime, allowing traders to work more closely with law enforcement to protect their staff and premises.

Highlighting the impact of the scheme, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner revealed that the initiative has already yielded results. Since the inception of such partnerships in the region, offenders have been handed custodial sentences totalling 112 weeks. Furthermore, the scheme currently manages over 20 priority offenders and has facilitated the issuance of multiple Criminal Behaviour Orders, Community Protection Warnings, and Community Protection Notices.

The expansion of this programme follows the successful launch of the first Wiltshire-based BCRP in Salisbury last November. By joining the network, local businesses can benefit from enhanced communication channels and a more coordinated approach to managing public safety and security in town centres.
