Central Swindon North Parish Council has approved a £4,350 contribution to provide essential toilet facilities for the relocated Play Den nursery at Morden Community Centre.

Central Swindon North Parish Council has formally approved a £4,350 contribution towards the provision of new toilet facilities at the Morden Community Centre. The funding, agreed during a meeting of the Finance and General Purposes Committee on 15 September, marks a further step in the ongoing project to relocate the Play Den nursery to the centre.

The Play Den, which provides childcare services for children aged three months to 11 years, is moving its operations to the Morden site. The project has involved significant infrastructure work led by the parish council to ensure the building is suitable for its new use.

In an effort to keep costs for local taxpayers to a minimum, the council has leveraged substantial external funding and private investment. The tenant is funding the majority of the project, covering costs associated with modular units, delivery and installation, sewage connections, electrical works and the kitchen fit-out, totalling £161,228.

Alongside private investment, the council has successfully secured £46,000 in external funding, including £30,000 from Sport England and £16,000 from the Swindon Borough Council Supporting Communities Fund. This is in addition to £81,000 previously secured for the site.

The parish council's own infrastructure costs remain focused on necessary site improvements, such as LED lighting, electrical connections and structural repairs. The latest contribution of £4,350, which will be met through the council's Public Works Loan Board (PWLB) funding, is intended to cover half the cost of installing the required toilet facilities. Once completed, the nursery will become a key fixture within the community centre, supporting local youth and family services in the area.
