A local fundraising effort has been launched to support an Eldene family who lost their home and belongings in a major fire.

A community fundraising appeal has been launched to support a Swindon family who lost their home and all of their belongings in a major fire that occurred in Eldene on Sunday, 13 September. Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at a property in Colingsmead at approximately 1pm, with fire crews, police officers, and paramedics attending the scene.

The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) confirmed that the fire was extinguished by 2.45pm, with crews remaining on-site for some time to manage hotspots. Authorities have confirmed that the incident was accidental. One person was taken to hospital for treatment following the fire, though no evacuations of neighbouring properties were deemed necessary by the responding station manager.

The scale of the destruction has prompted a local response, with a fundraiser established on the GoFundMe platform to help the family manage the immediate aftermath of the tragedy. Neighbours have described the rapid destruction of the property, with dramatic footage from the scene showing flames emerging from windows before firefighters deployed an aerial ladder platform to tackle the fire from above.

Local support has been swift, with The Stripey Badger pub among those publicising the appeal. A representative for the pub emphasised the strength of the Eldene community, urging residents to show the family they are not alone. Organisers of the fund state that the family is in urgent need of assistance as they face the loss of their home.

Those wishing to support the family can donate or find further information via the official GoFundMe page . The organisers have noted that even small contributions are appreciated, and simply sharing the appeal helps to raise awareness within the wider Swindon community.
