Swindon Borough Council has begun installing 1,000 large poppies across the town's major routes to honour service personnel ahead of Armistice Day.

Swindon's annual tribute to those who have served in the Armed Forces has returned to the town's streets. Borough council teams have begun the process of installing around 1,000 large poppies on lampposts along some of the area's most prominent and busiest roads.

This yearly display is a familiar sight for residents, with the poppies appearing on every fourth or fifth lamppost along key thoroughfares including Drakes Way, Queens Drive, Great Western Way, and Fleming Way. In addition to the council-led effort, various parish councils are also coordinating their own local displays within communities across the borough.

A spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council said the installation is designed to honour the courage and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community, both past and present. The council expressed hope that the presence of the poppies throughout the town will encourage residents to take a moment to pause, reflect, and pay their respects as the Remembrance period approaches.

The installation serves as a prelude to the formal commemorations scheduled for November. Residents wishing to pay their respects in person should note the following upcoming services:

Remembrance Sunday Service: Sunday, 8 November at 10.45am, at the Cenotaph in Regent Circus.

Armistice Day Service: Wednesday, 11 November at 10.55am.
