The family of an RAF veteran killed in a collision in 2018 are inviting local motorcyclists to join a memorial ride in Highworth to mark the anniversary of his passing.

The family of a popular RAF veteran and keen motorcyclist are inviting the local community to join a memorial ride to mark the anniversary of his death. Steve Speakman, 55, a former senior aircraftsman who served at Brize Norton and in Germany, died following a collision near the Rat Trap junction in Swindon on 5 November 2018.

Eight years on, his family are choosing to commemorate his life with a motorcycle tribute. The memorial ride is scheduled to depart from Highworth High Street at 6pm. Following the ride, participants are invited to gather at the Saracen’s Head Hotel for a drink to share memories of Mr Speakman, who was a well-known member of the Royal British Legion in Highworth.

The event has been organised by Mr Speakman’s step-granddaughter, Tiah Louise, who has been coordinating the tribute on social media. She described him as a man who brought happiness and laughter to those around him, noting that the family wanted to do something special this year to celebrate his legacy.

Mr Speakman was a dedicated figure in the local community and had been due to participate in the Highworth Remembrance Day parade shortly before he passed away. In the years since his death, his family have continued to honour his memory every Remembrance Day. His daughter, Imogen George, previously stepped in to take his place in the town’s parade following the tragedy, a gesture she described as a vital way to pay tribute to her father.

His family, including his parents George and Eileen, his brother and sister Kevin and Nicola, and his children, remain deeply affected by the loss. His step-daughter Charlene added that he was a wonderful man who is missed every single day.
