Swindon’s Designer Outlet is preparing to host the annual Space Station Pudsey fundraiser this November, bringing together sci-fi enthusiasts to support local youth projects.
Shoppers at Swindon’s Designer Outlet were treated to a preview of a major upcoming charity event on October 23, as a collection of iconic sci-fi characters gathered to promote the return of Space Station Pudsey.
The annual fundraiser, which supports local youth projects, will officially take place at the centre on November 13 and 14. Organisers are looking to build on the success of last year’s event, which raised over £3,000 for charity, with organisers hoping to match or exceed that figure this year.
Attendees at the recent preview event included Danny Darcy, who appeared in Return of the Jedi as both a starfighter pilot and a stormtrooper. The day featured several life-sized replica Daleks and a visit from Pudsey the Bear, drawing attention to the upcoming campaign.
The event has deep local roots, with some of the exhibits harking back to the original 1996 Space Station Pudsey gathering. John, a local resident, showcased a hand-made Dalek replica that he originally constructed for the event nearly thirty years ago. His daughter, Zoe, who attended the original 1996 event as a baby, helped coordinate this year’s preparations alongside her husband, Nicholas. The couple drew upon costumes created for their own sci-fi themed wedding earlier this year to help bring the display to life.
Marketing executive for the Designer Outlet, Charlotte King, confirmed that the November event will expand on the recent preview. Visitors can look forward to meeting a wider array of costumed characters and participating in an exercise bike fundraising challenge. The event will also feature a series of talks from special guests and actors throughout the weekend.
The organisers have been planning the spectacle for a year to ensure a high standard of costumes and activities, aiming to provide a memorable experience for families while driving donations for local youth services.
