Organisers are calling on Swindon businesses to support their annual festive toy appeal, which aims to provide gifts for over 1,000 children across the town.

The Swindon Christmas Toy Appeal is marking its tenth anniversary with a renewed call for local businesses to assist in bringing festive cheer to families who may otherwise struggle to provide gifts this year. Last year, the initiative successfully supported more than 420 local families, delivering over 1,050 packages that included a selection of toys, books, and stocking fillers for children aged between birth and 17.

Demand for the service is expected to rise significantly this season, as more local schools and organisations have joined the official referral network. Dawn Prosser, the appeal co-ordinator, emphasised the importance of community involvement in ensuring that local children wake up to presents on Christmas morning.

Businesses across Swindon are invited to participate in several ways to support the campaign:

Donating new gifts for children and young people aged 0-17.

Making financial contributions to assist in purchasing presents for specific age groups.

Establishing public donation points within business premises.

Promoting the appeal through internal networks or encouraging staff volunteering.

For those businesses able to host a public collection, the deadline for registration is 2 November. Prospective donation points are asked to provide their address, contact details, and opening hours to the organisers. For general donations, all physical gifts must be delivered to the central sorting hub by 30 November. The hub is located at the Bible Society, Stonehill Green, Westlea, SN5 7DG.

Financial support remains a vital part of the appeal, with organisers noting that donations of any size allow them to respond flexibly to the specific needs of families. Contributions help the team secure gifts for age groups that are often underrepresented in donated stock.

The appeal is managed entirely by a team of volunteers who handle logistics, sorting, and family support. Staff members from local companies interested in volunteering their time are encouraged to register through the official Gateway Church Swindon portal. A full list of donation sites and guidance on gift suggestions can be found on the appeal's official Facebook page, @Swindontoyappeal.
