Families in Swindon are invited to a free educational event at the local Dobbies garden centre focused on the science of leaves and seasonal changes.

A local garden centre is set to host a free educational workshop for children this autumn, offering a hands-on opportunity for youngsters to learn about the natural world. Dobbies in Swindon is running its latest Little Seedlings Club session on Sunday, November 1.

The event is designed to introduce children to seasonal topics through interactive learning. This month, the programme will focus on the lifecycle of leaves, exploring the science behind why they change colour as the seasons transition from autumn into winter.

Hannah Stephen, the event programme manager at Dobbies, explained that the session aims to help children discover the fascinating world of nature. Participants will explore why leaves come in various shapes and sizes, what plants require to thrive, and the important role fallen foliage plays in nourishing the soil and providing essential habitats for local wildlife.

As part of the practical nature of the workshop, children will also have the chance to get creative by making their own paper plate leaf wreaths to take home. The Little Seedlings Club is a recurring initiative by the company, which was founded in 1865, aimed at bringing communities together through garden-focused activities.

The session is free of charge, though families are encouraged to book their places in advance to secure a spot. Registration for the Swindon event can be completed by visiting the official Dobbies website at www.dobbies.com/events.
