Residents in the Swindon area are invited to share their views on proposed plans for a new Speedway and karting venue at Studley Grange as the development reaches a key discussion point.

A long-running debate over the future of Speedway in Swindon has reached a new stage, with residents set to discuss proposals for a major motorsports venue at Studley Grange. The development, spearheaded by Swindon Motorsports, could see the construction of a new track and karting facility just a few miles from Junction 16 of the M4.

The proposal is scheduled for discussion during the public question time at the Lydiard Tregoze Parish Council meeting. The session will take place at Hook Village Hall on Monday, July 14, beginning at 7.30pm. The meeting serves as a key platform for locals to voice their opinions, with the parish council noting that they have already received requests from residents seeking formal support in opposing the development.

Concerns raised by local objectors primarily focus on the potential for increased noise and traffic disruption in the area, particularly when considered alongside other nearby commercial and residential projects. Some residents have drawn parallels to the noise levels associated with the former Blunsdon Speedway site, expressing fears that the proximity of the proposed Studley Grange location could impact the quality of life for those living nearby.

Conversely, supporters of the project have argued that the facility would offer significant economic benefits to the region, including job creation and the potential to attract new business to the area. Terry Russell, chairman of Swindon Motorsports and Swindon Speedway, recently stated that the project follows a public consultation where a majority of respondents indicated their support. Mr Russell added that feedback has been used to refine the proposals, with a formal planning application expected to be submitted to Wiltshire Council in the coming weeks.

The meeting at Hook Village Hall provides an opportunity for all interested parties to participate in the democratic process. Local organizers have encouraged residents to attend regardless of their stance, ensuring that both supportive views and objections are formally heard before the planning application enters the statutory review process with the local authority.
