Final call for residents to shape Swindon's growth in Local Plan 2043
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

Swindon residents have until mid-November to share their views on the borough's long-term development strategy for housing, infrastructure and green spaces.
Swindon residents are being urged to submit their final thoughts on the future of the town as the consultation period for the draft Local Plan 2043 enters its closing stages. The document, which acts as a blueprint for the borough, dictates how the area will evolve over the next two decades by setting out policies for new housing, employment opportunities, local infrastructure, and the protection of green spaces.
This current phase, officially known as Regulation 19, represents the last opportunity for members of the public to influence the plan before it is handed over to the Secretary of State for independent examination. Swindon Borough Council has described this stage as highly detailed and technical, yet officials maintain that public input remains a vital component in ensuring the policies are both effective and deliverable.
The planning process has already seen revisions following an initial round of consultation held last year. That previous engagement, referred to as Regulation 18, attracted 589 responses from the public, which resulted in significant adjustments to the strategy. These changes included the introduction of clearer planning policies, enhanced environmental protections, and a more thorough assessment of housing density across potential development sites.
To assist the public in navigating the dense documentation and providing informed feedback, the council is hosting a series of drop-in sessions throughout October. These events are designed to help local people understand the proposals and submit comments effectively.
The deadline for all formal submissions is 12 November. Residents interested in viewing the draft plan or contributing to the process can find the relevant documents and submission portals on the Swindon Borough Council website.
