Latest Swindon food hygiene ratings: Greggs and Lidl among top scorers
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

Swindon Borough Council has released its latest food hygiene inspection results, with a host of popular local eateries and retailers achieving top marks.
A total of 24 businesses across Swindon have been awarded updated food hygiene ratings by the local council following inspections conducted throughout August. The findings highlight that the majority of establishments have maintained high standards, with many securing the top possible score.
The Food Standards Agency, which oversees the national rating system, uses these inspections to assess hygiene handling, the condition of facilities, and the management of food safety. Ratings range from zero, which necessitates urgent improvement, to five, denoting very good standards.
Among the major retailers and chains to achieve the maximum rating of five out of five were the Greggs at West Swindon Centre and the Havelock Square branch, the Lidl in Gorse Hill, and the Subway at Barnfield Close. All four were inspected on August 24.
Other notable businesses receiving the top mark include:
The Goddard Arms, Old Town
Coffee #1, Canal Walk
Travelodge Swindon Central, Princes Street
Childbase - Windmill Hill Day Nursery, Whitehill Way
China Kitchen, Commercial Road
Lux, Godwin Court
Party Warehouse, Cheney Manor
The newly opened Turkish restaurant, Lux, which launched in May, secured the top rating on its first inspection. Mobile catering services including Dilbi Coffee UK, Sparklingfoods, and Moonlight Macarons were also awarded five stars.
A handful of businesses received a rating of four, classified as Good. This included the Gorse Hill Chinese Takeaway on Cricklade Road, The Shalom Kitchen, and the mobile caterer Jeffs Fish, also known as The Codfather. These businesses were credited for good hygienic food handling and sound management practices.
Two establishments, the Biryani Lounge on Regent Street and the catering service Vailankanni Caterers, were assigned a rating of three, which is classified as Generally Satisfactory. Specific details regarding the inspection categories for these businesses were not provided in the latest update.
