Drivers urged to take care as Storm Boelo causes road closures in Swindon and Purton
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

Storm Boelo has caused travel disruption across the region, with local authorities confirming road closures due to fallen trees.
Motorists in Swindon and Wiltshire are being advised to plan their journeys carefully and avoid affected routes following the impact of Storm Boelo. Strong winds have resulted in debris causing blockages on key local roads, prompting warnings from both local council teams and traffic monitoring services.
In Swindon, Broome Manor Lane remains closed to traffic. Swindon Borough Council confirmed that the closure was necessary after strong winds uprooted a tree situated behind the local golf course. The local authority has cautioned that the tree poses a potential risk of falling and that crews are currently working at the scene to clear the hazard safely.
Drivers are being urged to seek alternative routes to avoid the area and to allow additional time for their travel. The council has emphasised the importance of avoiding the road while these recovery operations are underway.
Further disruption has been reported in the Purton area, where Restrop Road is currently blocked in both directions. According to AA Traffic News, the obstruction extends from Battlewell to Bagbury Lane, effectively preventing through traffic.
The current disruption follows a period of heavy rainfall and high winds that swept through the region during the latter part of the week. While the primary weather warning affecting surrounding parts of Wiltshire did not extend directly to Swindon, the impact of the storm has still resulted in localised hazards. Motorists are reminded never to attempt driving through floodwater, which can often be deeper than it appears, and are encouraged to turn around and find safer, alternative routes.
As conditions remain changeable, travellers are advised to check the latest traffic updates and public transport timetables before departing. Those living in areas prone to flooding are encouraged to keep their flood plans up to date and ensure emergency kits are accessible should conditions deteriorate further.
