Drivers warned of closures and diversions on Swindon's Shrivenham Road

Thames Water is carrying out works on a busy Swindon road, leading to a full closure and a lengthy diversion route for motorists until the end of the week.
Motorists in Swindon are facing disruption this week as essential utility works force the closure of a busy section of Shrivenham Road. Thames Water is currently on site to complete the realignment of a valve chamber, an operation described as a new service connection.
The closure took effect on Monday, 26 October, at 9:30am and is scheduled to remain in place until 11:59pm on Friday, 30 October. During this period, the B4000 Shrivenham Road is closed to all traffic from its junction with the Swindon Road and Brewery Street Roundabout, running southwards as far as Stranks Close.
To manage the flow of traffic, Swindon Borough Council’s Highways and Transport department has implemented a formal diversion route. Drivers are being directed to use the A361 Swindon Road and Highworth Road, before travelling along the B4006 via Highworth Road and Hobley Drive. The route then continues via the A4312 Oxford Road, the A420, and the B4508 before rejoining the B4000 Shrivenham Road. This diversion applies in both directions.
While the road is closed to general traffic, the council has confirmed that emergency access will be maintained at all times throughout the duration of the works. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance to account for potential delays caused by the increased traffic on the diversionary route.
