Commuters and parents are warned to expect significant congestion around South Marston as roadworks on the A420 force traffic onto residential streets.

Drivers travelling into and out of Swindon via the A420 are facing further disruption this morning as roadworks enter their third day. A new diversion route has been implemented just beyond the Gablecross roundabout, with authorities warning that significant delays are likely throughout the morning peak period.

The diversion is routing traffic directly through South Marston. Local residents and commuters are being advised that the increased volume of vehicles is expected to cause severe congestion, particularly along Thornhill Road. The impact is likely to be compounded by the start of the school day, with parents and staff at South Marston Primary School urged to allow extra time for their journeys.

These ongoing works on the A420 have already caused major delays in both directions over the past three days. Motorists are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly, remain patient while travelling through the village, and monitor local traffic updates as the situation develops throughout the morning.
