Essential roadworks on a key Swindon route are currently underway, with a full road closure in place until early November.

Motorists travelling in the Swindon area are being advised to plan their journeys carefully as resurfacing works continue on a significant local route. Kingsdown Road remains closed to traffic while Swindon Borough Council carries out essential highway improvements.

The closure, which began on Thursday, October 22, is scheduled to remain in effect until Sunday, November 1. The work is being carried out as part of S278 highway improvements and requires a complete resurfacing of the carriageway situated outside of the Kingsdown Retirement Village.

To manage the impact of the closure, a formal diversion route has been established by the council's highways department. Traffic is being directed via the A361 Highworth Road, Ermin Street and B141 Kingsdown Road. The council has advised that this diversion will remain in place throughout the duration of the project.

While the temporary traffic order has been introduced for a period of six months to allow for scheduling flexibility, the active period for the resurfacing works is restricted to the dates ending on November 1. Residents and commuters are encouraged to check the one.network website for the latest updates on the status of the road and any further traffic disruptions in the area.
