Gorse Hill residents urged to report fly-tipping as 'hotspot' attracts vermin

A Swindon councillor has called for increased vigilance in Gorse Hill as persistent fly-tipping in local alleyways creates health risks for the neighbourhood.
Residents in Gorse Hill are being encouraged to report instances of illegal dumping as a recurring fly-tipping problem continues to blight the area. Cllr Princia Fernandes has highlighted the ongoing issue, pointing to specific locations such as the alleyway on Beatrice Street which have become frequent targets for waste disposal.
The accumulation of refuse has reached a point where it is causing significant concern for those living nearby, with reports suggesting that the build-up is attracting vermin. Beyond the immediate health hazards, there is a fear that the visible presence of dumped items encourages further incidents of fly-tipping in the vicinity.
A recurring challenge identified by the local representative is the status of the land where much of the dumping takes place. Because significant amounts of waste are being left on private property, the process for clearing the sites can become complicated. This frequently leads to delays in removal as authorities navigate the responsibilities associated with private land ownership, which in turn allows the nuisance to persist for longer than it might on council-maintained land.
Cllr Fernandes has confirmed she is in communication with Swindon Borough Council regarding the situation and is pushing for more robust action to tackle the persistent problem. She has emphasised the importance of community involvement in the effort to keep the neighbourhood clean and safe.
Residents who witness fly-tipping are urged to report the activity through official channels. To assist with these efforts, the councillor has invited members of the public to share details and photographic evidence directly with her office to ensure that concerns are raised effectively and can be tracked as part of a wider strategy to deter illegal dumpers in Gorse Hill.
