The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain in Swindon, with heavy downpours and strong winds expected to impact the area over the coming days.

Residents in Swindon are being advised to prepare for unsettled conditions as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain. The alert comes as the region faces a period of persistent heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Friday, 23 October, is expected to see heavy rain for much of the day. Forecasters have indicated a 95 per cent chance of precipitation throughout the early hours and into the morning, with temperatures hovering around 10C to 12C. While conditions are expected to improve slightly in the afternoon, with rain easing by 6pm, the day will remain windy, with gusts reaching speeds of 49mph.

The weather is forecast to turn again on Saturday, 24 October. After a brief clear start, light rain is expected to arrive by 8am, with conditions likely to deteriorate. From 11am onwards, there is a 95 per cent probability of heavy rain, which is expected to persist throughout the rest of the day and into the evening. Winds will remain a significant factor, with gusts potentially hitting 46mph.

A welcome change in the weather is expected on Sunday, 25 October. The rain is forecast to clear by 6am, leaving a much brighter day with sunny intervals and lower wind speeds, peaking at 39mph. This clearer spell provides a brief respite before further unsettled weather arrives on Monday, 26 October, when rain is expected to return by 8am.

The Met Office yellow warning signifies that residents should be aware of the potential for travel disruption, particularly on roads. Motorists are encouraged to take extra care during heavy downpours and to be mindful of strong gusts that may affect high-sided vehicles or exposed routes. Those planning outdoor activities or travel across the weekend should monitor local weather updates closely, as conditions can change rapidly.
