Swindon is set for a week of wet and windy weather as the Met Office forecasts persistent rain and gusts reaching up to 46mph, prompting potential travel disruptions.

Swindon residents should prepare for a period of unsettled weather this week as the Met Office warns that a shift in conditions will bring persistent rain and increasingly strong winds to the region. After a relatively calm and bright start to the week, the atmosphere is expected to turn noticeably more volatile from Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The current forecast indicates that heavy rain will arrive in the early hours of Tuesday, with wet conditions expected to persist throughout the morning commute. While temperatures are set to remain relatively cool, peaking at approximately 11C during the middle of the week, the primary concern for motorists and commuters will be the strengthening wind speeds and the resulting impact on local road networks.

Wednesday will remain damp with intermittent light rain, but the weather is expected to take a more challenging turn towards the latter half of the week. Forecasters are tracking a band of wet weather moving through the area on Thursday, with wind gusts expected to strengthen significantly, reaching 38mph. By Friday, the wind intensity is predicted to peak, with gusts potentially hitting 46mph accompanied by frequent showers.

Drivers in Swindon and across north Wiltshire are advised to exercise caution, particularly during rush-hour periods. The combination of heavy rainfall and high wind speeds may lead to difficult driving conditions, including surface water on carriageways, reduced visibility, and the possibility of debris being blown onto the roads.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the unsettled pattern is expected to continue on Saturday with further rainfall. Temperatures may see a slight recovery to 14C, with Sunday currently offering the most favourable conditions of the period, featuring sunny intervals between occasional showers and temperatures reaching 15C.

While no formal severe weather warnings were in place at the time of publication, forecasters remain confident that the area will experience several days of disruptive weather. Residents are encouraged to monitor local updates from the Met Office throughout the week to stay informed of any potential changes to the forecast.
