Swindon brothers to be sentenced after shooting trial abandoned

The trial of two Swindon brothers accused of a shooting in St Paul's Street has been cancelled after both men admitted to firearms offences.
A trial into a shooting in Swindon was brought to an abrupt end at Swindon Crown Court on Monday, 2 November, following a significant change in plea from the defendants.
Dylan Anthony, 19, and Kyron Anthony, 20, both of Milton Road, were initially set to face a trial accused of attempted murder following an incident in St Paul's Street on the evening of 19 June. During the incident, a man sustained a chest wound and required emergency hospital surgery.
The trial was halted before a jury could be sworn in. Instead, both men admitted to lesser charges. Kyron Anthony entered a guilty plea for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. Both brothers previously admitted to wounding with intent and possession of a firearm.
The Crown Prosecution Service has since discontinued the charge of attempted murder against the pair. Judge Townsend commended the legal teams for reaching a resolution that avoided the need for a full trial.
Addressing the defendants, the judge stated: "These are very serious offences." He ordered the probation service to prepare reports for both men ahead of their sentencing hearing.
The brothers have been remanded in custody and are due to return to Swindon Crown Court on 11 December for sentencing.
In a related development, a separate charge against Peter Bullock, 45, of Queens Drive, who had been accused of assisting the brothers by driving them to Gorse Hill, has been dismissed. Following court proceedings, it was determined that Mr Bullock was not guilty of the offence, with his defence noting that he had been an unwitting participant in the events of that evening.
