A Penhill man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after faking BMW payslips and loan documents to secure thousands of pounds in fraudulent funds.
A 36-year-old man from Penhill has been jailed for 30 months following a sophisticated fraud investigation at Swindon Crown Court. Daniel Robertson, of Burbage Road, appeared before Judge Townsend on October 23, where he pleaded guilty to six charges relating to fraudulent activity and the breach of a serious court order.
The court heard that Robertson had engaged in a sustained period of dishonesty. In August 2024, he submitted falsified payslips to the Betway Group to gain £18,705. Investigators later discovered that he had been in possession of further fabricated documents, including bank statements and payslips falsely attributed to the BMW Group.
Between February and April 2026, Robertson continued his criminal activities by using stolen personal details to manufacture loan documentation, which allowed him to secure an additional £54,300. Throughout the period between August 2024 and April 2026, he also concealed these funds through various bank transfers.
The sentencing highlighted a deliberate disregard for the legal system. At the time of these offences, Robertson was already subject to a serious crime prevention order, which explicitly required him to notify Wiltshire Police if he opened a new bank account. He failed to disclose his loan application to the Great Western Credit Union and operated accounts under the aliases Paul Hardwell and Charlie Sutton.
In sentencing, the court documents noted that the offences were serious enough that only a custodial sentence was appropriate, citing the defendant's flagrant disregard for previous court orders. A further hearing has been scheduled for May 14, 2027, to address a crime prevention order that will take effect upon his eventual release from prison.
