A town-wide policing operation in Swindon has resulted in several vehicles being seized as officers targeted illegal driving and road safety concerns. On Saturday, 17 October, officers from the Wiltshire Police Specials Road Support Unit and Swindon Special Constables carried out the high-visibility patrols.
During the operation, which saw ten Special Constables deployed across five patrol units, officers spent more than 20 hours monitoring the roads and stopping a significant number of vehicles. The initiative led to a range of enforcement actions against drivers who were found to be in breach of traffic regulations.
The results of the day-long action included:
Three vehicles seized, including one found parked illegally on double yellow lines
One e-scooter seized
Ten Traffic Offence Reports issued
Five Fixed Penalty Notices handed out
One arrest of an individual for failing to appear at court
One drink-driver dealt with by officers
The team also attended three separate road traffic collisions during the course of their duties. In addition to their primary focus on road safety, officers provided support to response teams, which included assistance in seizing a knife discovered during a roadside incident.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police praised the efforts of the volunteers involved, noting that the officers managed to maintain their proactive stance despite being periodically diverted to address other urgent policing demands throughout the day. The operation serves as a reminder of the force's ongoing commitment to tackling unsafe driving practices and ensuring the safety of residents within the Swindon community.
