A Swindon father says illegal parking on William Street is preventing his family from leaving their home with a pram, prompting calls for stricter enforcement.

A father living on William Street, near Commercial Road, has spoken out about persistent parking issues that are preventing his family from leaving their home safely. The resident, who requested to be identified only as Bartosz, claims that motorists frequently ignore double yellow lines outside his property, creating a significant obstacle for his family.

Bartosz, a father of two, described a recurring situation where as many as ten vehicles can be found parked along the roadside on a single morning. The proximity of these cars to his front garden gate has caused difficulties when attempting to leave with a pram. He noted that previous attempts to address the issue directly with individual drivers, including a local taxi driver, have resulted in heated disagreements rather than a resolution.

The issue appears to be long-standing for residents in the area. Ana, the landlord of the property and a former occupant of the home, confirmed that she faced identical struggles during her time living there. She described one instance where her path was so completely blocked that she was forced to seek assistance from neighbours to leave her own home at 5am.

Swindon Borough Council has acknowledged that William Street is a known problem area and has confirmed that enforcement officers are actively targeting the location. In response to concerns raised, a council spokesperson stated that the local authority is carrying out regular patrols to address the inconsiderate parking.

Figures provided by the council show a significant level of enforcement activity, with officers visiting the street 44 times in September and 42 times so far in October. These patrols resulted in 20 penalty charge notices being issued in September and 27 in the current month. The council has confirmed that the latest reports of obstruction have been passed on to the parking enforcement team for further consideration.
