Swindon Borough Council is finishing resurfacing work on the damaged Dorcan Way cycle path, with full completion expected by next Wednesday.

Cyclists, runners and families who regularly use the path along Dorcan Way in Swindon can expect improvements to their journey within the next few days. Swindon Borough Council has confirmed that work to resurface the route, which had become significantly degraded, is entering its final stages.

The path has been a frequent subject of local frustration for more than a year. Residents have frequently taken to social media to highlight the poor condition of the surface, with many describing it as a trip hazard for pedestrians and dangerous for cyclists. Complaints often centred on deep, wide cracks that presented a genuine risk of catching bicycle wheels, forcing many regular users to avoid the route entirely.

Construction teams have already completed resurfacing on one section of the track. Work is now focusing on the remaining stretch, with the council targeting completion of the entire project by Wednesday of next week.

The route remains a vital connection for the community, serving as a primary thoroughfare for children travelling to the local school, as well as a popular choice for exercise and commuting. The council’s intervention aims to resolve the long-standing safety issues and restore a smooth, reliable surface for all users.
