Thames Water confirms hosepipe ban to remain in place across Swindon and Wiltshire
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

Thames Water has confirmed that current hosepipe restrictions remain active for Swindon and Wiltshire residents despite recent rainfall.
Thames Water has confirmed that the temporary hosepipe ban affecting customers across Swindon and parts of Wiltshire remains firmly in place. The restrictions, which were initially introduced on 23 July to protect water supplies during a period of dry weather, are continuing as the company monitors regional resources.
Although the region has seen recent rainfall, Thames Water has stated that sustained precipitation is still required to replenish reservoirs and improve groundwater levels. The company noted that while reservoir levels in London and Oxfordshire remain below the expected average for this time of year, Swindon is specifically experiencing notably low groundwater levels alongside drier than average soil conditions.
Despite the ongoing nature of the ban, there has been a positive response from the public. Since the restrictions were first implemented, household water demand across the region has fallen by more than six per cent. Thames Water has thanked residents for their efforts but continues to urge customers to use water carefully to ensure supplies are protected for communities and the local environment.
Are you exempt from the ban?
Thames Water has reiterated that certain customers are exempt from the restrictions. These include those on the company's Priority Services Register, such as individuals with serious medical conditions or disabilities, as well as people with severe mobility issues. These exemptions cover essential household and garden use.
No specific date has been announced for when the ban might be lifted. Thames Water has committed to continue monitoring weather conditions, demand patterns, and water levels across the region before making a decision on when to remove the current restrictions.
