Three people have been arrested in connection with an aggravated burglary in Highworth following a major police deployment in the Old Town area.

Three people have been arrested by Wiltshire Police after an armed response operation took place in the Old Town and Okus areas of Swindon on Sunday evening, October 18.

Residents reported a significant police presence, including armed officers and drones, concentrated around a house on Bacon Close. The activity was accompanied by multiple reports of police helicopters circling overhead for a sustained period, causing alarm among those living nearby.

Wiltshire Police have confirmed that the operation was linked to an aggravated burglary that occurred in Highworth on October 15. An aggravated burglary is defined as an offence where a person is armed with a weapon or threatens to cause harm at an occupied property. Police stated that armed officers were deployed to the scene because it was alleged that one of the suspects had been in possession of a weapon during the initial Highworth incident.

The three individuals arrested—two women and one man, all in their 40s—were taken into custody around midnight between October 18 and October 19. They remain at Gablecross Police Station as the investigation continues.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police confirmed that enquiries into the burglary are ongoing. While the presence of armed units caused significant local concern, the force has provided this clarification to reassure the public that the action was a targeted response to a specific criminal investigation.
