Swindon Town manager Ian Holloway has expressed frustration with his side's lack of belief and discipline following a 4-0 defeat against York City.

Swindon Town manager Ian Holloway has hit out at his team's performance after a disappointing 4-0 defeat away to York City, labelling the display as 'leaderless'.

Despite a promising opening period where the visitors competed well against their opponents' passing game, the momentum shifted decisively in favour of the hosts after two long-range goals put York in control. Holloway noted that the psychological impact of falling behind saw the team's confidence evaporate.

Reflecting on the match, the manager explained that the absence of key experienced figures such as Ollie Clarke and Ryan Tafazolli left the side struggling to cope when the situation became difficult. He pointed to a lack of communication on the pitch, suggesting that the current squad is still adjusting to one another and that a shift in mentality is required to avoid similar collapses in future fixtures.

The afternoon was further compounded by a red card for Mitch Clark, who was dismissed for his involvement in an altercation with York's Ollie Banks. Holloway expressed significant frustration regarding the incident, suggesting that the reaction of the opposition players influenced the referee's decision. The manager was also booked during the ensuing discussions with officials, describing the behaviour of the York players as unacceptable and questioning the conduct of the opposing management team.

Holloway stated: 'We were leaderless at times today. What we have got to do is believe in what we are doing, and I did not see that after they broke through us. People were not talking about where to go and what to do. They do not know each other well enough, so we have to sort our mentality out.'

The defeat leaves Swindon Town reflecting on a difficult afternoon, with the manager emphasising that the team must learn to maintain composure and tactical discipline even when faced with setbacks.
