Ian Holloway reconsiders travel strategy to address Swindon Town away form

Swindon Town manager Ian Holloway is evaluating every aspect of his team's preparations after a series of disappointing performances on the road.
Swindon Town manager Ian Holloway has confirmed he is reviewing every element of his side's travel and preparation routines as he seeks to end their dismal away form. The Robins have struggled on their travels throughout the current campaign, failing to find the net in three away matches while conceding seven goals.
The poor form on the road has become a significant concern for the management team, particularly given the stark contrast to their positive results at the Nigel Eady County Ground. The difficulties are not confined to the current season alone, with the team failing to secure a victory away from Swindon since 21 March. In 18 away fixtures across all competitions during 2026, the club has managed only five wins, alongside three draws and ten defeats.
The issue came to a head following a 4-0 defeat at York City, a result which prompted Holloway to speak candidly about his squad's lack of readiness. Reflecting on a training session held at St George's Park on the Friday before the York fixture, the manager expressed his frustration with his players' focus.
Holloway stated that the standard of the session was unacceptable, noting that the players struggled to string basic passes together shortly after disembarking from their bus. He described the squad as having been completely unprepared for the mental demands of an away fixture. The manager emphasised that professionalism and sharpness are vital requirements for players competing away from home, and expressed clear dissatisfaction with the group's performance during that particular session.
Addressing whether these issues will lead to fundamental changes in how the club manages its journeys, Holloway confirmed that nothing is currently off the table. He acknowledged that the team must learn to manage the physical and mental toll of travel more effectively to rectify their record.
The pressure to find a solution is mounting, as the side faces a challenging trip to Salford City this weekend. With the opposition currently enjoying a strong home run, the Swindon coaching staff will be looking for a rapid improvement in both concentration and execution to secure a much-needed result on the road.
